New Data Sharing and Services Agreement

We are pleased to announce that we have begun to roll out a new Data Sharing and Service Agreement (DSSA) for all municipalities. As reported in the March issue of InTouch, the DSSA updates and consolidates several existing MPAC-municipal agreements into a single document that modernizes our data-sharing relationship and provides greater clarity concerning permitted uses of MPAC data by municipalities, protection of Municipal data by MPAC and service level performance obligations.

Developed in consultation with a municipal working group of representatives from the MPAC Municipal Liaison Group (MLG) comprised of tax, assessment, legal and other municipal representatives from seven municipalities, the DSSA is intended to be a flexible framework for any future enhancements.

The deadline for signing the agreement is December 23, 2023. The agreement will come into effect on January 1, 2024.

Our Municipal and Stakeholder Relations team will reach out to municipalities to provide additional information about the agreement and answer any questions.

You can watch the April 4 webinar to learn more about the DSSA, the benefits for municipalities and our roll-out plan.

For any additional questions, please contact your local Municipal and Stakeholder Relations Account Manager.

April PACNs Have Been Mailed

This month, MPAC mailed nearly 41,000 Property Assessment Change Notices (PACN) to property owners across Ontario, representing more than $12 billion in new assessment. The April mailing is the first PACN of the year, and an addition to the PACN schedule. This supplementary mailing demonstrates our commitment to enhancing the property owner experience by providing owners with more timely information.

Strengthening Relationships with the OBIAA and their
BIA Members

We were very pleased to be participating as an exhibitor at the 2023 Ontario Business Improvement Area Association (OBIAA) Conference, held in the vibrant city of London this month. Our exhibitor booth was attended by three of our MSR Regional Managers, Jason Hagan, Michelle Lindquist and Tracy McIntyre. Our team had the opportunity to connect with leaders from the BIA and municipal community, and share information about MPAC, our role in the property assessment and taxation system, and how we’re fostering new ways to work together.

“The Ontario Business Improvement Area Association is instrumental in building strong relationships with their member network, and we are excited to collaborate with them to support their planning needs,” says Mary Dawson-Cole, MPAC’s Director, Municipal and Stakeholder Relations. “We are also thrilled to work with Ontario BIAs, sharing data and insights to assist them with planning and awareness."

Finding innovative ways to work together in a meaningful way supports Ontario’s local communities. BIAs are essential in creating and maintaining thriving neighbourhoods that offer positive and safe spaces for residents. MPAC is happy to play a role in helping businesses succeed and continues to look for additional ways to work together.

“Working with MPAC to access locational data for our BIA members  to support sound decision making is essential to their success,” says OBIAA Executive Director, Kay Matthews. “BIAs tend to be small organizations with very limited staff capacity, so offering trusted information to help them build solid strategies and reach members in their communities is indispensable.”

We appreciate the strong ties we’re building with the OBIAA and BIAs throughout Ontario and look forward to creating exciting new
partnership opportunities.
